Vehicle-Only10 spots
Crowding Only 8 trailer spots at Tavares' main free ramp — weekend mornings fill early, and festival weeks take the whole waterfront. The Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival (late March annually) and April's Hydro Drag Nationals both close the West ramp outright for days.
Plan B — if this lot is full Summerall Park (1001 Wells Ave, half a mile west) puts kayaks and boats under 12 feet into the Dora Canal, 7 a.m.–11 p.m., free. Mount Dora's Simpson Cove ramp across the lake is FWC-listed Temporarily Closed as of July 2026 — call (352) 735-7155. Trimble Park on Lake Beauclair is connected, lock-free water. Big rigs' fallback is DIFFERENT water: the Hickory Point complex on Lake Harris (SR 19, Tavares) reopened February 2025 with six new concrete ramps — same chain, a Dead River run away.

Tavares' Free Front Door
Two concrete lanes off Sinclair Avenue with both launch and staging docks, flush restrooms, free, listed 24 hours — the working trailer ramp for the Tavares waterfront and, with Simpson Cove closed across the lake, effectively Lake Dora's front door as of July 2026. The catch is the lot: 8 trailer spots. Come early.
You're Launching Onto a Runway
Seaplane base FA1 operates from Wooton Park next door — a 3,000 x 200-ft designated water runway, a 340-ft floating seaplane dock, an 80-slip marina and a combined boat/aircraft fuel dock from the $5.8M post-Irma rebuild. Floatplanes taxi to the downtown docks through the same water you idle out of; splash-ins bring 30-plus aircraft.
Check the Festival Calendar
This waterfront is Tavares' stage. Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival week in late March closes the West ramp Thursday through Sunday, the Hydro Drags have closed it in April, and Seaplane-A-Palooza takes over the park in early March. The city posts closures on its alerts page — look before you tow.
The Canal Is Half a Mile West
The Dora Canal mouth sits just west of the park — 1.2 miles of idle-speed, old-growth cypress through to Lake Eustis. Paddlers get their own door at Summerall Park (boats under 12 feet), and should expect heavy midday tour-boat traffic in the canal.
