Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
The Renamed Park
Longtime locals still call it Lock 7 or Jaycee Park; the county rebuilt and renamed it the Cliff Betts Jr. Lakeside Recreation Area. Three lanes, a fishing pier, and access to the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (the LOST) make it as much a park as a ramp.
Rim Canal to Open Lake
You launch into the rim canal and pass through Culvert 7 to reach the lake — a classic Okeechobee pattern. Plenty of anglers just fish the rim canal itself, which holds bass, crappie, and bream and stays fishable when the open lake is rough.
Walk or Bike the Dike
The Herbert Hoover Dike's paved LOST trail runs right past here — a rare place to combine a launch with a walk or ride atop the 143-mile levee that rings the Big O.
