Four Ramps, Pick Your Water
Margaret Van de Velde Park at Lakeport is really four ramps in a row: the lake-side ramps open onto the Okeechobee north-shore marshes, the canal-side ramps launch onto Harney Pond Canal. Read the signs — the second ramp from the entrance is the lake-access one; the west-side double ramp is the canal one.
Crappie Country
Lakeport and the Harney Pond/Indian Prairie canal corridor is legendary winter speck water — the canals concentrate the fish and stay fishable when the open lake is blown out. This is a cold-months destination.
Flush Toilets and a Pier
Unusually well-appointed for the west shore: real restrooms, a fishing pier, and generous parking make it a comfortable family-friendly launch as well as a serious fishing access.
