Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
The Biggest Lot on the Lake
Six lanes and parking for more than 200 trailers make Torry Island the largest-capacity ramp on Okeechobee — the southeast shore's answer to Clewiston, with the Belle Glade Marina campground and Slim's Fish Camp ramp right alongside.
The Hand-Cranked Bridge
Getting onto Torry Island means crossing the Point Chosen bridge — reportedly the last hand-operated swing bridge in Florida. It's a genuine piece of Old Florida and a narrow one; take it slow.
Southeast Shoals
This corner of the lake — the bulrush and peppergrass off Belle Glade and Pahokee — is trophy-bass country, and Torry Island is the closest big ramp to it. Expect company on a pretty winter morning.
