Three Launches in One
Coleman Landing is really three launches in one Polk County park: a two-lane concrete outboard ramp with a launch dock, a dedicated airboat ramp with a grass staging field beside it, and a separate canoe-and-kayak launch. The separation is why bass boats and airboats coexist here better than almost anywhere on the chain.
Five Bucks, Camp Free
The $5 launch fee is self-serve, and it's waived if you're staying in the primitive campground, and the on-site manager keeps the place running right. Expect rustic: composting toilets, gravel, oaks, and not much else. That's the appeal.
Real Hours, Long Days
5 AM to 10 PM covers everything short of a true midnight run — the earliest legal launch on the Polk side of the lake and three hours more evening than the State Park's sunset gate. For a dawn bite in summer, this is the southwest corner's answer.
Steep but Solid
The lanes are in great shape, and they are steep. Power-load with care at low water and use the dock — the drop-off has surprised a few solo launchers.
The Chain's Quiet Corner
You're launching near the lake's southwest outlet country — a short run to the island cuts around Brahma Island, the grass lines toward the S-65 lock, and the KICCO wilderness shoreline along the young Kissimmee River. It's the least developed approach to the least developed big lake in Central Florida.
