Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
State Park Launch
The $5 per-vehicle park entry covers the launch: a single concrete lane with a staging dock, 27 trailer spots, 36 vehicle spots, flush restrooms, and rangers at the gate. It's the most civilized ramp on the lake — the trade is the gate itself, open 8 AM until sunset, every day of the year.
No Dawn Patrol Here
The 8 AM gate is the one thing every angler needs to know: there is no pre-dawn launch and no after-dark retrieval. If the winter shiner bite demands first light, launch at Joe Overstreet's (24 hours) or Coleman Landing (5 AM) and save the State Park for civilized-hours days.
The 1876 Cow Camp
Up the park road, the living-history Cow Camp recreates an 1876 Florida cattle drive camp — costumed 'cow hunters,' cracker cattle, the whole scene (typically weekends and holidays). Between that, 13 miles of trails, and a full campground, this is the ramp where a fishing day and a family day coexist.
Paddler's Side Door
A separate accessible kayak dock (its own FWC inventory entry) gives paddlers a proper launch away from the trailer traffic — and the marsh edges, oak hammocks, and island cuts on this corner of the lake are as good as Florida paddling gets. Eagles, ospreys, deer, turkeys, bobcats, and plenty of alligators are the park's own wildlife list.
Camp Mack Next Door
The park shares Camp Mack Road with Camp Mack's River Resort — fuel, store, restaurant-adjacent civilization, and a $5 24-hour ramp on the river side. Between the two, the northwest corner has both the wild and the convenient within two miles.
