Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
The Free 24-Hour Flagship
Herlong is the lake's only free public ramp, and it runs around the clock: two concrete lanes, a floating dock, 20 trailer spots, jointly badged by the City of Leesburg and FWC. Every pre-dawn crappie run and after-dark summer bite on Griffin starts here by default.
Half Park, Half Ramp
Herlong earns its keep as much on shore as at the ramp: a fishing dock, easy bank access, covered picnic tables, and a pavilion make it the spot where the non-boating half of the family waits happily. Kids-and-cane-poles is a legitimate way to use this place.
Urban Edge Trade-Off
The park sits right off US 441 on the Leesburg lakefront — the easiest ramp to find on the whole chain, and the price is traffic hum and city-park bustle rather than wilderness quiet. The small campground next door can get lively after hours, too. Come for convenience, not solitude.
No-Frills Facilities
Composting toilets and a lot that could use a little upgrade — serviceable, not shiny. The ramp lanes themselves are solid, and the floating dock makes solo launching easy.
Shellcracker Water North
From the basin it's a straight run up the lake toward the Emeralda Marsh shore and the hard-bottom shellcracker colonies that made Griffin's comeback famous. On the spring bedding moons, watch the fleet of anchored jons and you'll find the beds without electronics.
