Sunset Landing Park Boat Ramp

Also known as: Sunset Landing · Sunset Landing Park - Boat Ramp
Lake Jackson · Leon County, Florida
Last verified: July 27, 2026
Level-dependent launch: Lake Jackson has been in a drought dry-down since Porter Sink opened in late November 2025. The Miller Landing gauge (NWS LJKF1) read 77.55 ft NAVD88 on July 27, 2026 — roughly 2-3 ft below typical full stage (~80+ ft). Check the live gauge (water.noaa.gov/gauges/ljkf1) and call Leon County Parks (850-606-1470) before towing.
Hours conflict: FWC lists 'Daytime Use Only'; Leon County's page says the boat ramp is open 24/7. Call ahead for night plans.

Water DepthFWC's July 2026 forecast makes Sunset the one ramp with 'the potential of launching larger boats' at current low water — potential, not promise. Check the Miller Landing gauge before betting a big hull on it.

Crowding Six trailer spots on a lake with modest traffic — but at July 2026 water levels anything bigger than a jon boat funnels here, since it's FWC's only 'potential' larger-boat option.
Plan B — if this lot is full Crowder Road Landing (small craft, ~3 mi around the south shore) and Miller Landing (hand launch, the classic low-water jon-boat put-in) are FWC's named launches at current levels. Jackson View (Hwy 27) is Temporarily Closed. For a full-size rig on stable water, Lake Talquin — a different lake west of Tallahassee — is the dependable alternative.

The Big-Boat Maybe
One concrete lane FWC grades Good to Excellent, a staging dock, gravel-limestone parking and flush restrooms, free — the best-appointed ramp on the lake, and in FWC's July 2026 guidance the only one with 'the potential of launching larger boats' during the dry-down. 'Potential' is doing real work: read the gauge, then decide.
Separate Canoe Launch
The park carries a separate canoe launch a few hundred feet east of the ramp (FWC lists it as its own hand-launch site), plus picnic tables and a water fountain. Paddlers get their own door instead of queuing behind trailers.
Heyday Address
Sunset Landing is the launch named in the lake's big-bass heyday coverage — when Lake Jackson carried a national trophy reputation, this NW-shore ramp off US 27 was the front door, and FWC still credits the lake with 67 Lunker Club and 14 Trophy Club TrophyCatch entries.
